Task 3: Technical document of my application with an evaluation

I have designed an application for HM Prison Stafford to manage wardens and prisoners within
the prison. I have designed it by using the Visual Basic app as windows form app.net. I have used
C# programming language to create this application because it is easy and simple. Not many
hardware and software requirements should be satisfied by the users for the usage of the
system. Users ought to be furnished with essential hardware equipment, for example, monitor,
mouse, CPU and keyboard so as to use the system. Then again, since the system is for the most
part created for online application, programs and active internet connection are pre-imperative
so as to utilize the system with no drawbacks.

This application is utilized by staff and wardens to add new prisoners, staff and visitors into the
system. Some basic hardware specifications are expected to guarantee that the created
application run easily in any platform of operating system. 8GB DDR4 RAM is required for the
program to convey a smooth performance and bolster higher data transfer rates. Other than
that, in any event, at least an Intel core-i5 processor is required to accomplish a robust
performance and permit the users to perform program capacities without memory buffer.

However, working operating system for this online application to work is Windows 10 or higher
because it is proved that it ends up being the best in protection for the system. Windows 10 is
used as it is the most advanced version of Windows so far therefore it will run more smoothly
and allows for more features to be applied in the creation of the prototype, making it user
friendly. Since this is just a prototype the whole system has been done using Visual basic.net
programming language. The reason why Visual basic.net is used is because it is the easiest to use
when creating a prototype as it is the easiest among the three languages. There is also the
implementation of database where all the information is stored for safeguard and is linked to
Visual basic.net for easy access.

The strength of my application is that it clear and organised well, it is easy to understand what is
being asked. In the software program, only the warden has the capability to add information
about the prisoners, staffs and visitors. The HM Stafford Prison are able to delete any
information they don’t want from the system. They can easily add all the information’s of the
prisoners, staffs and visitors as my application will be very clear. It will ask the basic and
important information such as the name, identification card number, date of birth, gender,
telephone number and email. I have created a main class that will ask the same basic questions
to the staff and visitors so that I wouldn’t repeat the same code to all the different classes.
However, it also asks more questions based on what is entered, for example, if the warden
entered 3 for visitor they will be more questions regarding the visitation such as prisoner Id,
number of visitors, date and time of the visitation.

Other than that, the simplistic UI is seen as a limitation. The UI has a simple design and it serves
its purpose and functions well enough. Although it serves its functions, it does not have the
capabilities to have extra features. This means that the software is not able to execute
commands that are too far out of its range except for the basics and the ones programmed for
its specific. It is efficient but not exactly customer friendly. However, I have added codes that
changes the colour of the text in some part of application to make it more presentable.
