The content of this course book is clearly structured and presented with articles, colourful graphs
and diagrams, attractive photographs, is logically set out with steps to complete prior to the
activities, informative information and informal interactive activities that students can work on
either independently or within groups appropriately graded for their level.
This course book progressively raises its level from the start with presenting the new topic to more
difficulty towards the end of the unit with students writing their own report and recognising
different varieties of English.
Whilst the unit does make use of recycling and revision here and there with scarce repletion work
it does move quite quickly to the next task. I prefer spending a little more time on revision to check
the students understanding of the topic, language and gramma used as we went along with the
lesson.
I did not see a teacher’s book with lesson procedures, extra teaching resources and answers which
the course book does mention, ‘’on page 10 to turn to page 106 to check your answers. ’It provides
exercises, written tasks and activities as well as listening to the audio clips provided, which
students can then do in groups or independently.
There is a good balance of all four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as the
language areas. I feel that pronunciation should be emphasized a little more to practice fluency
and accuracy. The activities are interesting, interactive and diversified with group work, discussions
and debates on globalisation, comprehensions, writing, listening, skimming and scanning to
complete the sentence, listening and repeating and gramma (focusing on the continuous verb
forms).
Material used throughout the course book is culturally appropriate, interesting and not offensive in
any way for this mixed-nationality class studying in an English-speaking country. It gives us
examples of different gender, sex, age and nationality living abroad.
With the variety of tasks, activities, group discussions and practises, it fails to mention any type of
test or exam.
According to the scope and sequence of this course book, it does not provide any grammar
reference pages nor is there a vocabulary list provided for the students. It is also unclear on
whether or not the school, students or students’ parents will financially be able to buy or afford
this book.
In conclusion, this course book, unit one covers most of the evaluation checklist (The TEFL
Academy, Unit 10, Part 1) I would add a little more of controlled speaking and pronunciation
exercises. Guided allocation time would also assist in WBP stages. I will add a vocabulary /phrase
page for students to take notes as they go along. I would definitely use it, its neatly laid out with
interesting reliable information making it interesting to teach and students to learn. Its dynamic
and interactive for all.
