Unit 20: Investigating Corporate Social Responsibility

Should a large business have a CSR policy?

Introduction

I will be discussing a specific business which has CSR policies. The aims which
McDonald’s uses to make sure they are working ethically, economically and
environmental impacts of how they work as a business. Also, in this report researching
the different ways in how the company aims to use CSR to reduce waste and also protect
the environment. Coming to a conclusion of why these policies are positive for the
company and why there are drawbacks too. I have selected this business as it is a large
business which uses CSR in different ways, such as it has got different opportunities for
its employers so they have the chance to build on their career but also along the way
they can help people through charities.

20/B. P3 Investigate the potential benefits of the CSR policy of a selected business.

The main aim of having policies is so the business can be operating in a way that is
responsible and appropriate. There are important factors that need to be analyzed, these
are the human rights, the effects of the environment and economic. McDonald’s
involving CSR and using the policies is mostly because that helps them in building the
brand awareness for the company as a whole. It increases the sales too which is a
positive for the business. As it is a socially responsible company, their aim is to take
responsibility for their actions as people outside of the company want to see they can
take ownership of what they do. Being a huge business, there has been downfalls which
means they have had to work even harder so they can please the stakeholders.

The customers play a part in adding success to the business, this is because they are not
directly involved in however, they are external stakeholders. Customers are a reason

, why companies can either be successful or unsuccessful. Their feedback is taken into
consideration as their views help the business to improve or change ideas. People who
buy from McDonald’s are all external stakeholders. Even if they choose to buy less
frequently, they still have some interest which is why they are using the business. An
example of this is when the company has a new name on the food menu, this results in
more people coming so they can try and then leave their feedback, this will mean they
make it permanent on their menu or remove as they did not get enough positive
feedback. All franchises of the business want to hear back what customers think, what
they enjoy and what they think can improve. From this they will do what they can to
make the experience for customers better.

The Corporate social responsibility which is in place has more of an impact on its
customers than the employees who work at McDonald’s. The efforts mostly satisfy the
needs of the customer. The stakeholders are both the employees and customers but the
employees are only partially left satisfied. By having CSR and more people knowing
about this, it increases more possibilities for the company, it affects assets such as the
image of the business. As McDonald’s takes on the CSR, for them as a business it is
about achieving excellent results and making sure open lines of communication are
maintained at all times because this is important for both the stakeholders and
customers. The business is showing brand awareness and the satisfaction of employees
as they are promoting Corporate social responsibility.

Using the policies and having CSR, it enables companies to have a strong brand image
and also high level of customer loyalty. The Corporate social responsibility has the same
effect as using advertisements. The company marketing reputation is increased more
because the business is well known, it attracts the attention from different people by
using posters that are eye catching. People will want to discover more if they are seeing
McDonald’s advertising their food for the world to see, as the restaurant is famous for its
Big Mac, so the public value is increased. McDonald’s is a popular food restaurant which
takes into consideration its target audience. They have a responsibility and that is to
deliver to a high standard, making sure the products are good quality and value. They
also take into account having good customer service put in place. It needs to reflect on
the company that they care not only about the business itself but also the stakeholders
who are buying from here. It needs to be clearly outlined that it is a socially responsible
company that can demonstrate precisely how it does business. Customers are aware of
issues and are alerted about any global or local issues. This can have a negative or
positive impact on the business, people may not think about buying if they hear an issue
which is portraying McDonald’s negatively. Deciding to use paper straws has increased
sales as it is an environmental issue that is being fixed, using plastic straws was a result
