P1: Outline why children and young people may need to be looked after away from
their families.
In P1 I would be explaining the reasons why children and young people may need to be
looked after away from families. Being looked after away from families means being taken
care of the social services due to different circumstances. The reasons that would be the
cause of them staying away from their families is that their parents have problems with
staying away from drugs, parents could have illness and will be unable to look after their
children to their full ability, The children's parents coil have passed away and they have no
one to look after them at home and the final reason could be because they are being abused
at home.

Children and young people may need to be looked after away from families for various
reasons. One reason why a child or a young adult would have to be away from their families
could be because their parents are drugs addict which could affect their situation at home
such as, they would be neglected by their parents meaning they would not receive much
attention or they would not have someone supervising and there will be no one being
responsible for their needs such as feeding them, showering them or helping them with their
homework. They could be abused by their parents due to the effect of the drug and this
could go on for a very long period of time.

Another reason why a child or a young person may have to be looked after away from their
family is because both of their parents may have passed away. This could mean that either
they would need to be looked after by their extended families or they would have to go to
foster care, this is so that they are being taken care of and that they are not abandoned on
their own. If they are not being taken care of this could affect the child mentally as they could
still be grieving and have so much in their hands such taking care of themselves whether
that is financially and physically. This is why it is important that they are being taken into
foster care so that they are well and healthy and that they are being supported.

When a single parent has fallen ill this could also make it difficult for them to look after their
children, this is a reason why the child will have to be taken away from their parents until
they have recovered to the full extent. This would benefit the child as it would be financially
easier for the parent as they would have to take care of themselves and also their child
would be financially supported by the care they are in. Another reason this would be
beneficial for both the parent and the child is that the children would be well looked after and
supervised by the social services and the parent wouldn’t be in constant stress whilst trying
to look after themselves and the child. This is why it is important they are being looked after
by the social services as they would receive full care.

If a child or young people is being abused at home then this would also mean that they
would have to be looked after away from families. This could help the child as they are being
saved from being injured even further. Being abused at home could be mentally disturbing
for a child to grow up with, Therefore it is important that the children are away from such
harm and that they are being cared for. The types of abuse children or young adults could
face is physical abuse, mentally abused, emotionally abused and financially abused. It is
important to take them away from such an environment as it could cause more damage and
harm to the child.

To conclude P1, I have given reasons as to why children or young adults might have to be
taken away from family and why it is important that they are being taken away due to their
circumstances.

P2: Outline the arrangements for providing quality care for looked after children and
young people.
In P2 I would have to outline the arrangements for providing care for looked after children
and young people and how it would help and benefit them.

One arrangement that would provide quality care for children and young people would be
respite care. A respite care is where the child goes for temporary care. This may be due to
their parents' illness and that they are exhausted to care for their child. This would be
beneficial for the child as they would be provided with full care as they will be fed well and
kept safe. This would also be beneficial for the parent as they will have time to recover and
that they will also have less stress upon them.

Another arrangement that would provide quality care for children and young people would be
adoption. Adoption is where children are taken under the care of another family and this is
the legal process. Adoption gives the family the full responsibility of the child or young
people. Adoption would be beneficial for the children or young people as it would make them
loved and cared for. They would be provided with immense care by their new family.

A residential care is also another arrangement that would provide quality care for children
and young people. Residential care is for children who are not being treated well at home, or
have been abandoned or neglected. The residential care provides these children with
shelter, food, and their personal needs. This is beneficial for the children or young people as
they will be included and be supported, treated well and cared for.

Foster care is also another arrangement that would provide quality care for children and
young people. Foster care is when the children are away from family and are being taken
care of under foster parents or carers. They will be with their foster carers temporarily until
their situation is changed. Foster care provides children with food and their needs, they also
give them a family environment that makes the children or young people feel more at home
and gives them the assurance that they are safe.

To conclude P2, I have listed out different arrangements that children or young people can
go into to be taken care off and have explained how each of them benefits them.
