A ‘series’ of sorts, consisting of four legislative documents created by the English Parliament (1661 to 1665
The name is taken from Lord Chancellor Edward Hyde, who was the count of clarendon (hence, Clarendon
It was intended to protect the national church of England from ‘subversive tendencies’
The Four Acts it was made out of are listed and described below:
The Corporation Act of 1661: It required all individuals working within the government to attend and follow
Anglican Church and to fully reject the Solemn League and Covenant of 1643. This act intended to exclude
conformists from public offices
The Uniformity Act of 1662: Made the use of the Book of Common Prayer compulsory during church serv
The Conventicle Act (1664): Prohibited unauthorised worshipping meetings of more than 5 people who we
members of the same household. It was to prevent the rising religious groups, s
Quakers, from coming together.
The Five Mile Act (1665) – Forbid non-conformist ministers from living within 5 miles of the parishes that
been banned/expelled from. They were also prevented Clarendon Code in schools. This act was later abolish
from teaching
1812.
There was also an Oath called the Oath Of Supremacy, which stated: (this part is copied and pasted from th

within this realm; and therefore I do utterly renounce and forsake all foreign jurisdictions, powers, superiorities and authorities, and do promise th
henceforth I shall bear faith and true allegiance to the Queen’s Highness, her heirs and lawful successors, and to my power shall assist and defend
jurisdictions, pre-eminences, privileges and authorities granted or belonging to the Queen’s Highness, her heirs or successors, or united or annexed
imperial crown of this realm. So help me God, and by the contents of this Book’
