Tesco SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats)

Strength
Tesco have the biggest hold on the British grocery market when it comes to the revenue and
profit being made. Amongst all of their competitors Tesco’s had made over 60 million across
the UK and Ireland. The UK also have the highest market share by having around 27% which
is the highest compared to Sainsburys 16%, Ada’s 15%, Morrison’s 10%, Aldi’s 7% and lidls ,
waitros and co-op being around 5% .

Tesco’s are the most popular grocery store in the UK Tesco’s have been creating a lot of jobs
around the UK and keep expanding. Tesco’s have employed a estimated 500,000 job
opportunities for members of the public. And have offered over 700,000 job opportunities
which has given Tesco the title as one of the biggest private employer providers in Europe.

Weaknesses
Tesco’s have experienced success and failure with expanding worldwide but have failed to
penetrate the U.S and Japanese grocery market. Tesco couldn’t penetrate and establish
themselves in the American market withs chains like Walmart, the Kroger and Albertsons
and the Japanese market with chains like AEON, ito yokado and tokyu store. the public had
already established their buying relationships with these chains and don’t know the impact
Tesco’s have had in Europe and don’t know how reliable Tesco is. these two failures showed
that Tesco couldn’t comprehend and adapt to these two different massive markets.

Tesco’s had to pay a significant fine to settle a serious fraud investigation by the fraud office
in the UK. Tesco had settle an agreement for them not to get prosecuted. This at the end
created a bad image for Tesco later down the road with investors wanting to by shares.

Opportunities
Tesco's choice to present its new discount store called Jack's to handle the rising danger
presented by German challengers Aldi and Lidl additionally offers the organization
development openings in the markdown market.

There are various arising economies Tesco can investigate. Nations, for example, Indonesia,
Turkey, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil and numerous others worth evaluating
