Assignment 1

Case study that analyses and evaluates the recruitment and selection processes, drawing reasoned
conclusions on how these processes contribute to the success of Microsoft.

Microsoft is one of the world’s leading global companies pushing a total net worth of $717 billion.
Microsoft is known for its software, electronics, personalized computers and gaming tech. Microsoft
Windows started the line of operating systems and till to this day are dominating the personal
computer industry while still in competition with Apple.

Workforce Planning

Employees preparation is a process used to match the organization's needs and priorities with those
of its employees to ensure that it can fulfil its legal, regulatory, service and development
requirements and organisational goals. All workers within a business can be working in the right
place at the right time if the company is managed properly and with authority. Workforce Planning is
important to a company because it allows organizations to react quickly to problems economically,
technologically, socially etc. Workforce planning also improves productivity as workers will posses
the correct skills which will help the company financially (either in the short run or the long run).

Processes and use of agencies

There are a number of reasons why an
employer may decide to outsource their
hiring process, but the main benefits that
a recruitment agency provides to
businesses are: Market knowledge. A
wider candidate reaches. Recruitment
experience. Employment agencies make
money by charging the company that you
work for, or they might take a percentage
of your pay.

Advantages of using a recruitment agency

• Save time. The number one reason why people use recruitment agencies?

• Recruitment Knowledge.

• Employer Branding.

Disadvantages of working with an agency for your recruiting needs.

• The cost of recruiting. Working with third-party recruiters requires a fee for their services.

• Lack of control.

• Indirect candidate access.

• Communication issues.

Reason for vacancies

In most cases, the most frequent reason for a vacancy is the departure or dismissal of a worker
within an organization. In other cases, changes such as a promotion would also be another reason
for a vacancy within a company. Also, a demotion can make a vacancy occur, similarly, a worker
being fired can also cause a lot of openings within a business. In my Microsoft’s case, the company is
growing, and therefore needs to recruit on a regular basis for both the advertising, marketing roles
etc, in order for the business to grow. Positions become available because: vacancies come about as
employees leave Microsoft. An employee may have maternity leave which is often a long period of
time in which new candidates may have to be recruited on for the time the employee is on
maternity leave.
