Introduction to Pearson BTEC National Applied Law.
There are 7 units in this exam board however you will only learn 4.

1.Dispute solving civil law MANDATORY UNIT!!!

2. Aspect of criminal law and legal system MANDATORY UNIT!!!

3. Applying the law MANDATORY UNIT!!!

4. Aspects of Family law

5. Consumer Law

6. Contract Law

7. Aspect of Tort law

Some of these units are optional and some are mandatory. The optional Units will be chosen by your
teacher. This means that you will ONLY do 4 units.

It will be split in half so in the first year you are likely to do one exam-based unit and one
coursework-based unit. This will be the same in your second year studying applied law so again one
exam-based unit and one coursework-based unit.

The exam-based units will be done on a computer and they will be written up in a word document.
As for the coursework you may take your notes on a laptop or in a notebook but you will have to
write them up so that your teacher can mark it as the coursework is 50% of your grade and having
good coursework will allow you to achieve higher grades, in addition It might be that you are not
good at studying for exams for whatever reason you can do well on your coursework and it will stop
your grade from dropping.

The grading system for this exam board like any other BTEC course is Pass/ Merit/ Distinction or
Distinction *.
