This document introduces the American government's system. It briefly explains the three branches of government. It also details the creation of the constitution.
There are 3 sectors that make up the American government, also known as branches. The
three branches of government are the Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. The legislative
branch represents Congress and the Senate. This branch is in charge of making laws and
writing bills by discussing and voting on them. The Executive branch represents the
Presidency, which is responsible for approving laws and receiving bills which can be vetoed.
The Judiciary is the Supreme Court which enforces laws and determines constitutionality of
actions.
Parties and Elections
The United States has a two-party system, meaning that two political parties consistently
dominate the US political landscape. The Republican party and the Democratic party are so
prominent that it is mere impossible for a different party to break into the political system.
There have been 19 Republican presidents and 21 Democratic presidents throughout
Americas history. Elections are held in every branch of the American political system. The
most recent being the election of President Biden on Novermber 3rd 2020. The elections lead
branches of government usually being either a majority Republican or a Majority Democrat
which influences the Presidents power to get through real change. Elections are usually held
every 2-4 years, however the supreme court is different. When someone is elected to the
supreme court, they are elected for life until they choose to retire.
Issues
Issues such as the black lives matter, abortion rights and gun law have risen in popularity
over recent years which makes controversial issues a prominent part of current US politics.
People use protesting to show their support or voice their disagreement with different
political and social issues.
