Summary:
After the referendum confirmed the demand for an independent nation, work began on creating the best
country to represent our people. This document seeks to evaluate the Legislative branch used in the US
in order to find out if it is a viable option for Shetland to use when establishing our political system. In
order to do this effectively we will firstly explore the background that has led us to conduct this research,
then move on to explore both the benefits and weaknesses of the US Legislative Branch. Lastly, we will
outline conclusions and recommendations on our findings.
Background:
The political history of Shetland has always shown that the citizens' political opinions have been
consistently different to the Election results from both Scottish Parliamentary Elections & General
