Introduction
This assignment will focus on 3 websites which will be one commercial, non-commercial and
voluntary website. The websites chosen are Target, British Broadcasting Corporation and
Save the Children. These websites will be described and thoroughly analyzed in order to
discover how these websites serve a purpose to the different organizations and how they are
beneficial to the recognition or sales of the organization.
Types of Websites and their Purpose
There are many different types of websites across the worldwide web, each consisting of
uniquely different features and serving various purposes. Majority of the organizations use
websites as a marketing window. These are called commercial websites and can be divided
into two categories being business to business (B2B) or business to customer (B2C) websites.
Business to Business websites are used for the transaction between two businesses, the
business selling and the business purchasing. These transactions are less frequent but
account for more in relation to money value. On the other hand, there are business to customer
websites which is the opposite of B2B. This is the transaction that occurs between the business
and private customers/consumers. These transactions are more frequent but account for less
in relation to money value. Commercial websites aim to generate revenue through direct online
sales.
Non-commercial websites are websites for organizations which are owned by the local
government, national government, voluntary sector bodies or campaigning groups. These
websites do not intend to make a profit. They aim to provide services for the society, for political
purposes, to bring awareness to a cause, provide information, etc.
Target (Commercial Website)
Target is a retail company based in the United States. They sell a variety of different products
including beauty and health products; clothing and accessories; electronics; food; furniture;
jewelry; shoes; small appliances; toys/games, etc.
Target offers direct online sales, online sales with physical delivery and click and collect
options to their consumers on their website. There are different usability features which are
used to ensure that users are able to use the website without any difficulties. The online
shopper can find what they are looking for with the different links and tabs on the website and
images show up clearly. Difficulities may only arise if the user has poor internet connect.

Drop Down Menus make it easier for the user to navigate their way on the website. There is
also mouse over image navigation which adds to the user’s experience.
, With the different categories, the company makes it easier to target different audiences. As
seen, they target by gender, life stage, lifestyle, interests, etc. Within these categories, there
are other categories which target a wider range within those target, for example; under
women’s, besides women’s clothing, there is a category for maternity and plus women
clothing. The categories go deep by then providing what the user is interested in. This is the
case for all the other categories. This is however can be problematic as the person has to click
continuously in order to get to the other sections which is not very efficient.
