Employee Training and Development: Reasons, Benefits and Costs
In this assignment I'm going to be explaining and accessing the reasons why a business such as Apple
trains its employees.
Apple is an American multinational technology company which was first founded on the 1st of April
1976 by Steve jobs and Wonzunak Ronald Wayne. Apple designs and sells electronics, computer
software and online services. Apple sell goods and provide services such as iCloud, Apple pay and
iTunes.
Training is 1the process of increasing the knowledge and skills of the workforce to enable them to
perform their jobs effectively. Whereas Development is 2can be summarized as the ideas, initiatives, and
activities that help make a business better.
There are many reasons why Apple train their employees such as Strategic, Individual, Departmental
and Operational
STRATEGIC
Examples of strategic reason is increasing profits, Increasing profits and market leader.
INCREASING PROFITS
Apple can increase their profits by aiding in improving their staff's productivity such as giving teamwork
training. Teamwork training will help Apples employees work and bond better as a team together
making it easier for them to increase productivity and reach their main goals which will result in higher
profits.
INCREASING TURNOVER
Apple can also increase their turnover by understanding their customer base. Apple could offer a
customer service training course for the staff. By using this strategy employees will be able to
understand and relate to their customer. Without customers Apple would not have any income. And by
doing this Apple will also be able to focus their attention on the right group of customers making it more
efficient when it comes to increasing turnover.
MARKET LEADER
Apple can improve their market leadership by increasing innovation in the business and this can be done
through the use of business innovation training. Improving innovation helps Apple as a business as it
improves productivity, increases profitability and turnover which can aid improving Apple's marker
leadership making them the largest market share in the industry.
OPERATIONAL
Examples of Operational is Productivity, Healthy & Safety, Workforce Flexibility, New technology,
Legislations, Internal Promotions and Employee Motivation & Performance.
PRODUCTIVITY
, Deborah Anwo
Productivity is state or quality of being productive. I will be very beneficial if the productivity rates in the
business are very high because high productivity in the workplace increases employee motivation which
then increases more innovation. Apple can improve the productivity in the workplace by providing
organization training. This will help staff be more organized when it comes to their schedule and to
make sure there are things being done on time. By doing this will help their productivity.
WORKFORCE FLEXIBILITY
Apple is a large and very busy business so it would be very beneficial for Apple to train staff to be more
flexible. Apple may be understaffed in a particular section of the business and in case of an emergency
staff may be needed in that sector. Then the training will pay off as staff could be moved to the
understaffed sector will be flexible enough to work in that area.
NEW TECHNOLOGY
As the business grows Apple may need various types of new technology. The staff may need training on
how to maintain and keep the technology working well. Technology can be very expensive these days so
it would be very beneficial if the staff learnt on how, they could use it.
LEGALISATIONS
3
Legislation is a set of laws put in place by the government to protect businesses, employees and
consumers. Different types of legislation that businesses must follow include employment laws,
consumer laws, and intellectual property laws. Employment law involves keeping the
employees safe and ensuring that employers are fair. Consumer law involves protecting
consumers and anyone purchasing products and services. Intellectual property laws involve
protecting ideas, creations, designs, names and logos. Apples employees would need to be
trained to ensure that they don’t go against these laws.
EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION & PERFORMANCE
Apple as a business is very large so it may be hard to keep up with all the staff on how they are doing
when it comes to their performance frequently. But when they do evaluate and access their staff 4Apple
mainly measure its employees' performance in to 3 categories: Teamwork, innovation and results. There
are 3 levels of performance: Needs improvement, met expectations, Exceeded expectations. By doing
this assessment Apple can use the results to see what needs more development and what staff may
need more training when it comes to their performance and motivation.
HEALTH & SAFETY
There are health and safety laws that apply to all businesses. Apple a company are responsible for
health and safety in your business. Health and safety laws are there to protect you, your employees and
the public from workplace dangers. In case of any emergencies, it would be best for Apples staff to have
