Unit 9 Task 3

Student’s Name: Sean Fitzgerald Date: Duration of Activity:
10 mins
Activity Title: Rationale for activity: To support and further children’s
Emergent reading – Follow the word path emergent reading skills and boost literacy skills using new and
learnt words.
Age(s) of Children: Number of Children / Adult – Child Ratio
4 to 5 Years (Ratio – 1 Adult : 8 Children) 8 Children
Proposed Learning Outcomes: To help support children’s understanding of words that they have already learnt and
to read them out loud to boost their vocabulary and to also introduce new words for them to learn to also help
further their vocabulary and support their emergent reading through spelling out words and learning to pronounce
them. By the end of the activity the children will hopefully be able to understand more about learnt words and
develop further understanding of new words as well as expanding their vocabulary and further developing their
reading skills.
Brief Description of Activity: The activity will consist of path of words on the floor that the children will follow. The
children will need to read and say out loud the word on the floor and explain what the word means or use it in a
sentence to be able to progress onto the next word / use a dice to make the activity into a game. Further up the path
the children go the harder the words will get to make the children think and progress the words in their head. The
path will consist of words that the children have learnt about already and already know with some words being new
to them to develop their understanding and reading skills.
