 Foreign Policy – government’s strategy in dealing
with other nations
 Economic Policy – government’s dealing with
money (taxes)
 Social Policy – government’s dealing with people
 The Wars of the Roses lasted between 1455-1485
 The two houses were York and Lancaster
 The white rose represented York and the red rose represented
Lancaster
 When combined this made the Tudor Rose
 Henry VII ruled from 1485 until 1509
 He gained the throne during the Battle of Bosworth
after Richard III was killed and thus defeated
 Parliament – passes laws and taxes to help run the
country
 King’s Council – the King’s advisors and administrators who helped
him run the country

 Reign – 22nd August 1485 - 21st April 1509
 First Tudor King of England
 Married to Elizabeth of York
 Claim to the throne was via his mother, Lady
Margaret Beaufort which made it weak
 From 1471 Henry spent 14 years in exile in
Brittany, France with his uncle, Jasper Tudor

 Earned his position – it was seen as though God wanted him to be

 England was low on money – mercenaries to pay soldiers
 Came from Brittany – no support, didn’t know customers, there were
other claimants, unmarried with no heirs
