, Chapter 1: Introduction
This paper examines the following question, “To what extent has Amazon’s Human
Resource strategies contributed to its ongoing performance?” The word ‘performance’ will
be investigated in the context of both financial and non-financial data over time, given as
evidence through research and data collection. Additionally, the extent of the company’s
performance will be supported with data, specifically looking at HR-related data such as
employee and customer satisfaction, brand value as well as financial indicators such as market
share, net income and growth.
Amazon, a leading multinational corporation, was established in 1994 and has grown
immensely by offering a wide range of products and services that have become entwined into
more than 197 million customers per month globally (as of 2018). This essay will focus on
Amazon’s human resource (HR) strategies- which have been embedded largely by Jeff Bezos
– the company’s founder and current CEO.
It is necessary to address the research premise in order to create a clear depiction of Amazon’s
Human Resource strategies. During early research, it was evident that Amazon’s corporate
culture, leadership and management style, as well as its motivational theories were
predominant factors in its unparalleled success.
