Unit 4 Assignment A:
Apprentice name: Nicole Senyurt
Company: H+H UK Ltd.
Who are we?
H+H UK Ltd. is the largest UK manufacturing company that produces aircrete (aerated
concrete). Aircrete is a common building material used in UK construction due to its lightweight
design, flexibility and thermal efficiency that make it ideal for its potential use in all type of
buildings, no matter the size, depth or length within the construction field. As a company, our
vision is to be recognised as a market leader and the most preferred supplier of state of the art,
sustainable and affordable aircrete building solution. Also, our aim is to supply value added
aircrete solutions for buildings in profitable partnerships with distributors, contractors and
housebuilders.
How key business activities influence us?
As a manufacturing company, we must have different business functions in order to be
organised and work collectively in order to run the largest and most successful manufacturing
business that produces Aircrete blocks in the most effective way.
Human Resources(HR):
HR is one of the most important business functions within any organisation because within this
department, they are involved in the staff issues of the organisation. The HR department deals
with recruiting candidates and hiring the right employees by reviewing the application and
having an interview done. This is crucial that before the employer hires a suitable employee,
that they observe the candidate’s skills within the interview by asking the interviewed person a
task to complete or a “What would you do in this scenario question”. When observing a suitable
employee, it is essential to check if they are responsible enough to accept their own
responsibility for any damage, they have caused by themselves and within a team. This is to
ensure that you know the individual is honest and is dedicated to having a positive attitude when
working in the company, pursuing strong values too as this leads to good rapport which is very
valuable as a certain level of trust develops. Also, it is essential to test their knowledge about
machines that are used in the company and see if they have any experience of how to use the
machine. This is to ensure that if we hired a team of new employees who have none of those
two skills then how would the team be able to produce a large batch of goods within the
company. Therefore at least one individual who has both expertise and/or experience of
handling the machines would be desirable to hire because they can help others out in the team
when it comes to fixing the machines or helping to not delay the manufacturing process.
Secondly, when checking out an individual it is essential to check out their health because in the
company, there will be different roles for every individual either working by themselves or in a
team. By checking their health, this makes sure that we allocate the right individual to the
correct role by taking their health issues into account. As everyone is physically able or mentally
able to do something else, therefore we want to minimize the risk of incidents occurring despite
giving the individuals PPE within the organisation. We must make sure to not force the workers
, to go beyond their capabilities as this can lead to fatigue and tiredness, which could slow down
the manufacturing process. And we must make sure that we do a DBS check before hiring the
right employee, which includes criminal convictions they may hold. This is to make sure that we
do not waste time within the recruitment process.
Therefore, when we hire someone it is essential that we carry out health and safety checks to
prevent the work from being a burden upon their capabilities and causing potential stress within
the company due to lack of staff – if we do not hire the right employees. And we must observe
their skills to see if they are a potential employee so that they are able to work both individually
and collectively in order to make a successful business.
Supply Chain Management (SCM):
Supply Chain Management is another business function within the company that manages the
flow of goods and services including the movement and storage of raw materials and of work-in
process inventory, as well as keeping track of complete goods which have been created to who
they go to. This is essentially the management of supply chain activities in order to help
maximise customer value and achieve competitive advantage over the business rivals who also
produce high quality goods within the same field.
As a company, we want our customers to have a high standard of customer support, since the
amount of goods and quality of goods have a huge impact on the consumers. As we attract the
consumers with our goods, we must make sure that the goods are distributed on time as
consumers have been waiting for the launch of a new good or restocking of the goods.
Therefore, it is crucial to make sure that the supply chain management branches get the product
as soon as possible before the launch or restock of a specific good like Aircrete blocks in order
to earn profit from the products.
We must also make sure that the Supply Chain Management is good enough within the
company because a good supply chain management can reduce the operating costs of the
company which is great. This is essential because as a company, we need to deliver the
products in a timely manner, and we want to make it quick and snappy in order to avoid
expensive inventory which can be achieved by having a good SCM, they can deliver the
products in the fastest way possible in order to avoid any costs that occur due to delays. And
with a good SCM, as a company they can deliver materials to assembly plants at a lower
purchasing cost therefore this lowers the production cost too, which is essential to saving
money within the company.
Also, as a company with a good SCM team, we can maximise customer services because when
it comes to sales, we thank the customers who make our long-running aircrete manufacturing
business successful by buying our products. But first before the customers can buy our goods,
we must have a good SCM team who deliver the right quantity and quality of products to
customers, as we make a promise to our customers about delivering the right amount of
everything to them within a specific time period which includes no wrong products! Therefore, it
is crucial that we do not delay the delivery process to our customers as they will be dissatisfied
with us and could give us a bad rating, which has a huge impact on our business as it could
lead to many potential customers to be led astray from us and be attracted to another company
instead due to having faster delivery and lesser mistakes when delivering and distributing
goods.
