● Describe the structure and position of the atrioventricular, aortic, and pulmonary
valves.
● Describe the origin and course of the coronary arteries
● Demonstrate the arrangement of the fibrous and serous layers of the pericardium
● Describe the basic arrangement of the lymphatic system
● Identify the major vessels of the body

Circulatory Systems
● Cardiovascular system:
○ Consists of the heart and blood vessels
○ Blood contains nutrients, oxygen, and waste products
● Lymphatic system:
○ Drainage of surplus tissue fluid and leaked plasma proteins

Cardiovascular System
● Pulmonary circulation:
○ Right side of the heart pumps to the lungs
● Systemic circulation:
○ Left side of the heart pumps to the bodily tissues

The Heart
● Vessels:
○ The superior and inferior vena cava flow into the right atrium.
○ The pulmonary artery flows out of the right ventricle.
○ The pulmonary vein flows into the left atrium.
○ The aorta flows out of the left ventricle.
● Note how the majority of the vessels are visible posteriorly. Less detail of them is
visible from the anterior view.
○ 1 - right atrium
○ 2 - right ventricle
○ 3 - left atrium
○ 4 - left ventricle
■ A set of coronary vessels show the divide between the right and left
ventricles.
● The aorta and pulmonary trunk (both arteries) can be identified as they lie between
the auricles on the anterior side.
