1.What options are appropriate for this patient? Options available for this patient would first include progestogen-only contraceptives. For example, the Depo-Provera is not only progestin-only, but it is also a long-acting injection that is typically given every 3 months. It is said to be 99%effective at preventing pregnancy (Bonnema, McNamera & Spencer, 2013). Non-hormonal options are also available for this patient. These forms of non-hormonal options include spermicides, copper IUDs, the Today Sponge, cervical caps and condoms which all provide the adequate protection without the added hormones (Bonnema, et al. 2013). Next is an intrauterine device or “IUD” that is inserted into the uterus. The Mirena IUD is the one mostly used, contains progestin-only, and
can be replaced every 12 years (Bonnema et al. 2013). Lastly, there is the Para-Guard IUD option that contains no hormones and like the Mirena, is inserted into the uterus. This option can be replaced every 5 years (Bonnema et al. 2013).

2015).
