Unit 9 task 2

B.P3 Demonstrate the correct use of standard procedures to
prevent infection in a health or social care setting.
B.P4 Demonstrate correct decontamination
techniques in a health or social care setting.
B.P5 Review how successfully use of own techniques
prevented and controlled infection.
B.M2 Demonstrate the correct use of procedures to
prevent and control infection, adapting them for different
situations.

While I was working in derriford, i had to attend patients.
Within my practice I had to make sure i prevented infections
in the environment. This means I had to make sure I washed
my hands this means I have to follow the appropriate and
washing techniques and wash my hands with a liquid soap
and using alcohol gel afterwards. The first patient I have
attended as had bandages and the tissues used to stop the
blood well left on the table out in the open. The first thing I
did was clean up the tissues that were used to stop the blood
of the patient's full stop the tissues around the table and they
claim they are by using PEE. I was provided to pee so the first
thing I did was pick up the tissues while insuring I had gloves
on and dispose of them in the yellow bin as they are not safe
and then I removed my gloves then change into the yellow
cleaning gloves and used a detail cleaning spray so 99% of
pathogens are clear from the table. I am sure I will my gloves
to act as a barrier so there infections don't contaminate my
hands. I did this because this could contaminate the table
and other patients may put their hands on that same table
and rub with the eyes or nose. The blood has a possibility of
being infected as I and other patients don't know the patient's
health history so it wouldn't be safe to leave the table not
cleaned as others maybe touching the tables and themselves

, which means they are putting the pathogens on themselves
and this puts the staff and other patients in danger of
contaminating that. This will protect individual and
environment from infections and wolves contact with the body
fluids other factors person. For instance if an individual
where to put their hands on tape infected table and if the
table still had blood on it if the individual were to put their
hands in their mouth after work they could get infected. For
example, HIV can also be contracted through blood to blood
contact infected blood so individuals have to be careful in a
Healthcare environment. Although it is a low risk
contamination it can also happen if not careful. After I
finished attending to this patient, I took off my apron and
glove by using the right techniques of cuffing the glove on the
apron and then over each other. I then washed my hands with
liquid soap and used alcohol gel afterwards. This was
successful because i was using PPE in the correct way and as
a barrier to prevent infections and i didn’t spread any of the
infection because the tissues didn’t touch the floor and the
table was cleaned after. The PPE also acted as a barrier for
me so i won’t contaminate my hands and others with
pathogens. I also ensured the table wasn’t touched by other
patients so the spread of pathogens don’t occur as the table
needed to be cleaned promptly as it is a high risk
contamination because some infections are blood-born. This
was also successful because i was able to dispose the
contaminated tissues in the bin which was the yellow bin
because the tissue are high risk. I was also able to use the
correct techniques of taking off my apron and gloves so i
don’t spread pathogens.

For the second patient, needles were utilized so it had blood
in it which means the needles were contaminated with
whatever infection the patient has. So I washed my hands with
liquid soap and used alcohol gel after then changed into new
