psychological approaches to one of the case studies provided on Moodle and

reflect on your experiences working with the different psychological

Case study analysis: The case of Jack


The case of Jack shows that he is finding his university assignments difficult and

is struggling to cope with the workload he is provided with at university. The

biological approach and the evolutionary approach can be used to depict the

reasons as to why he is struggling with his workload. Both approaches use

stress as an explanation for his behaviour. Through exploring the theories and

assumptions of this approach, this essay will show that both the biological

approach and the evolutionary approach are useful in understanding this case

study.


Majority of the time, the biological approach and the evolutionary approach

both tend to use methods of collecting quantitative data in their research, such

as questionnaires and brain scans. Hypothetico-deductive methods are often

used in these studies to collect quantitative data in research. Even though both

approaches tend to use quantitative data in their research, evolutionary

psychology also use qualitative data to collect data. Qualitative data is

collected through methods such as interviews and these provide more detail in
