Unit 4: Managing an Event - Assignment 2

Understanding Business (University of Greenwich)

,Unit 4: Managing an Event Assignment 2

C4/B. P3: Investigate the staging of several events to determine common success factors

Introduction

In this assignment I will introduce three successful events which have done extremely well in both popularity and
profits and therefore introduce and layout my own plan for the event. I will be talking about the key factors,
research and planning, resources, and the risk assessments of my own half a day event which I will be setting
up with a conclusion in the end.

Event 1— The London Olympics 2012

Olympic games being a massive worldwide multi- sport event
takes place every 4 years. It does take place in a different country
all the time. Olympics was once taken in London in 2005 for being
the host for the Summer Olympics in 2012. In order to hose
these games successfully there was a lot of redevelopment
needed which was essential as it requires for a brand- new building
opening with 200-hectare Olympic Park within the East London
while using other venues too.
This Olympics also involves more than 250
committees than attended nationally.

For the Olympics to be successful it was congested by several factors. The incredible support from the fans in
Britain. On the other hand, the environment was perfect for the athletes as it helped them with their
performance.

However, it wasn't only the public and the environment which has made it successful. Therefore, it was also
the amazing marketing team which has a huge role in the success of

, this event. It would have been a disaster if the marketing team didn't do what they did. The marketing had
been consisted of the top companies with world class providers of services and funding with top people with a
lot of expertise. This all contributed to the whole success of the Olympics. This included the merchandising of
the programme too which was broadcasted in all major channels which has included amazing sponsorships
while having different licensing programmes. All this has made sure to reach 90% of the population.

Health and Safety was one of the most important factors to look at as it really contributed to the success of this
event. The volunteers and the workers must have been looked after properly. It was a priority. This is due to
following the Europe and UK legislations and standards which provides a good safe environment for the
workers. There were around all together 40,000 people who worked in this event. There was a great leadership
to contribute to the health and safety standards which has resulted in very low rate of accident.

The London Olympics in 2012 was a huge success as it gave amazing reactions around the world as it
celebrated the volunteers, the British military who have made it happen smoothly and the public enthusiasts.
However, there was some incidents that was held but overall, it was rated a highly successful event as it raised
the standards of competition with great performance. The success of this Olympics has been marked in history
as a great national celebration. Therefore, Olympics venues have also sustained and used event after
the games had shown a great sporting legacy in order to host it again. Therefore, the London Olympics in 2012
had been a financial success as it boosted the UK economy with £10bn.

Event 2 — iPhone X Launch

4 iPhone X
Say hello to the future. Just the name of the phone iPhone X
contributed to the excitement of the product.
The way it was marketed was to show the
phone was bought from
the future. Apple skipped the iPhone 9 and bought the consumer the iPhone X as it showed
