Archaeology comes from the Greek Word ‘Archaios’ meaning Ancient, and ‘Logos’ meaning
discussion. There are different branches of Archaeology:
Chronological Subdivisions - Prehistoric, Historic and Contemporary
Geographical Subdivisions
Subdivision by Specialism - Environmental, Bioarchaeology, Underwater,
Enthoarchaeology, Archaeogenetics, Conservation

Material Culture - Anything created, shaped or produced by human actions

Two main evidence types

Features - where something was (cannot move it e.g. the Parthenon)
Artefacts - smaller, movable objects (not purposely placed in the ground)

Most prolific is pottery - does not disappear

Types of Evidence:
- Architecture
