The 1813 social novel »Stolz und Prejudice» by Jane Austen is one of the
most famous works in English literature. It is set in the early 19th century
in the rural surroundings of London.


Information about the author
Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775 in Steveton, Hampshire. She
is the seventh of eight children. She was taught at home by her father.
They lived a quit life and very similar. All her books were published under
the name "By a Lady". When her health deteriorated in 1816, the last time
became quite difficult until she died on 18 July 1817 at the age of 41.


Content summary
The love story is told by Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Both overcome
external and internal resistances, namely pride and prejudices, in order to
come together. In the classic of world literature, Austen not only describes
the personal development of lovers. The novel is also a description of the
English land nobility around 1800. His social rituals and rules are
presented with partly loving and partly biting irony.
