2.2- Evaluate the effectiveness of media used in campaigns for change
Blogs
Blogs are usually written by an individual person, where people can write about their
life and express themself online. One strength of blogs is that it is free, setting up a
blog costs nothing. This is a good thing as it shows, anyone can set one up it doesn't
matter how much your income is. Another positive of blogs is, it consists of up to
date information and statistics, as people are constantly working on their blogs.
Therefore if you're getting information from blogs it is most likely going to be valid.
The last positive of blogs is, it can allow people to express their opinions and not
hide away, people reading these blogs might also relate and not feel alone. Which
can often lead to the public feeling happier and can lead to others having a better
day. However, a negative of blogs is not all blogs are up to date as it is very time
consuming and people do not have time for it as they are probably in employment as
well. Therefore, Another disadvantage of blogs is that some people use these
platforms to express inappropriate opinions.
The last disadvantage of blogs is that they are not on the first page of google so it
takes time to find them. An example of its use in a campaign is unlock, where they
are trying to help ex criminals. A positive of the blog used in unlock is that there is so
much information ranging from little paragraphs to links to websites. However, a
disadvantage is, there is a little too much information and no ones going to read all of
the pages that are on there. Overall I think this type of media is not effective as they
dont have any other social media platforms such as twitter or instagram.
Social networking
Social networking is connecting with other people and allows you to express your
opinion and feelings. One strength of social networking is that information can start
with just a hashtag and lead to a whole movement. A good example of this is the
campaign #MeToo where Tarana Burke encouraged people who have been sexually
assaulted to use the hashtag, this then quickly spread across social media.
Another strength is 2.3 billion people use social media, therefore so many people
could potentially see your campaign. This makes campaigns easy to grow without
doing everything strenuous such as designing a tv advertisement. Lastly, it is very
cost effective and won't cost much if not any to start a campaign on social media.
This then allows more campaigns to start up and anyone can start one due to not
needing money.
However, a negative of social networking is these sites can be hacked and your
campaign could get deleted. Therefore, hard work can be put to waste and your
