Social Justice and Human Rights
 Everyone in society should be treated equally as shown in the parable of the good Samaritan
 Supporting bible quote- ‘you are all one in Christ Jesus’
 We should follow human rights as God gave them to his society.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except for
which God has established’.

Prejudice and Discrimination
 Prejudice- judging someone before you know them and forming a set opinion of a group or person.
 Discrimination- Act based on prejudice e.g. treating someone unkindly because of their race or religion.
 Someone may be prejudiced because- they don’t have enough information to base an opinion on, having been told
bad things about a group of people by parents or seeing something on the media.
 Race- All Christians believe racism is wrong
 Sexuality- Roman Catholics argue in Genesis it only mentions heterosexual relationships so this is what God intended
however they don’t discriminate against homosexuals.
 Also homosexual couples can now marry in the UK and as God sets the laws Christians should not discriminate
sexuality.
 Disability- Jesus has unconditional love for disabled people showing how Christians should not discriminate against a
disability.
 Many support use of positive discrimination e.g providing access ramps.

Women
 Roman Catholics believe women can’t have as much power as men in church so can’t be priests.
 They believe this because at weekly communion the priest represents Jesus at the last supper and only men can
represent Jesus and Eve was made from Adam so women are inferior.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘the head of women is man’
 Church of England Christians believe men and women are equal. God created them at the same time both in the
‘image of God’ showing they are both equal in the eyes of God and have the same special relationship with God.

Religious Freedom
 All Christians believe religious freedom is important.
 Some Christians believe religious freedom is important because everyone should respect each other’s views and
opinions as Jesus did.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘be completely humble, and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.’
 Other Christians believe that although religious freedom is important there should be restrictions in place as some
people want to commit violence or crime in the name of religion so not everything done under religion should be
acceptable in society.

Poverty
 If there is someone physically able to get out of poverty but are lazy they don’t deserve to be outside poverty.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘the one who is unwilling to work shall not eat’
 Often addictions or greed cause poverty.
 Supporting bible quote- ‘for drunk and gluttons become poor’
