Empirical Outcomes identified through the Magnet Survey report and the benefits experienced at

Saint Louis Medical Center (SLMC) as a result of the utilization of the Magnet Model.

Magnet Recognition and Empirical Outcomes

As a way to ensure healthcare dollars are spent wisely The Centers for Medicare and

Medicaid Services (CMS) developed a Value-Based Purchasing Plan (VBP). Through this plan

reimbursement is tied to the quality of healthcare. This allow facilities like SLMC to not only

carry the coveted Magnet status, symbolizing the highest quality of care, but also to improve

care, improve patient outcomes and improve nurse job satisfaction as well (Woten & Mennella,

2016). When it comes to reimbursement through the VBP the largest component determining the

amount hospitals will receive is the Total Performance Score (TPS) within this score outcomes

measures, facilities are reducing the rates of these complications, reducing mortality and costs,

improve care and patient outcomes.
