Client comfort and end-of-life care

Reflective Paragraph

A change I will make in my clinical practice is how I will communicate to my patients. It

is important to know what my patient wants. I will make sure that my patient is making his or her

own decisions and knows the different options they have based on the scenario. It is difficult

when patients have a lot of family members because of course they care about them a lot and

they don’t want to see them leave. In a situation like this one, I would make sure to communicate

with my patient one on one and make sure that they are making their own decisions and it is

what they truly desire.

Answered question correctly and completely: According to the State Board of Nursing in your

state, what is the Registered Nurses responsibility in treating a patient’s pain?

ANA-Illinois advocates for “the rights of all for access to quality pain management for acute,

chronic and end of life pain to minimize suffering and improve quality of life, functionality,

irrespective of diagnosis, age and culture.” I believe the nurse’s responsibility would be to allow

the patient to participate in their management of their pain, to advocate for proper pain

management and try to minimize any adverse effects that may come with pain management.
