In this task, I will describe how my chosen businesses, that is, Coca Cola PLC and NHS,
are organised. I will provide examples of functional areas within the organisations
that help to deliver the strategic plans of the organisation. I will also state how these
functional areas are interdependent.
Organisational structure is the term used to describe the explicit and implicit
institutional rules and policies to provide a structure, where various work roles and
responsibilities are delegated, controlled, and coordinated. It also determines how
information flows from one level to the next within the company. Furthermore,
organisational structures determine how power and responsibilities are assigned.
Coca Cola PLC:
The Coca Cola PLC is of the divisional structure. In other words, it is based on the
divisional areas of the business and each division has its functional area. The
organisation has 3 main layers. That is, operational level, tactical level and strategic
level. They pass information to each other, to make the business run smoothly.
Coca Cola’s organisational structure has dozens of tiers, among which are
administration, sales and marketing, sustainability, legal departments...
The Coca Cola PLC has a hierarchical structure and consists of several levels.
The leader is of utmost importance according to the organisational structure. The
latter will be at the very top and will manage most of the business activities and take
major decisions in the organisation in collaboration with other employees. There will
be a head of department for each functional area (Marketing, finance, production,
research and development...), who will also take decisions related to their section of
the department.
The finance, marketing and production department of the Coca Cola PLC are among
the numerous functional areas in the organisation. These functional areas carry out
specific tasks and are interdependent. That is, they work together for the smooth
running of the business.
