In this assignment, I will review the success of a training programme whichABC College has decided to undertake.
To begin with, the college is a non-profit organization and thus the only
benefit from the training sessions would be that employees would be able to
provide high quality training to its students and ensure that there is a high
success rate and positive outcomes at the end of the year. As a result of
this, there would be potentially a greater number of prospective students
applying for courses given that the college might receive a higher OFSTED
grading in terms of teaching and learning, which is a considerable factor.
ABC College could review whether its training programme is successful or not
based on the level of outcome and productivity. For instance, a positive
change would be if staff members are more confident in delivering lessons
and lectures as they will be aware of how to deal with various situations
which may arise in the classrooms. This can be beneficial to both
themselves and the students, as they will feel comfortable in doing their job
due to higher self-esteem and students will benefit from this as they will be
taught in an effective manner that could lead to constructive outcomes. As
such, the college could evaluate the efficacy of the training programme by
keeping a close eye on the performance of students for class tests or even
through ‘E-progress’ as their achievement will reflect what they have
acquired from lessons and explanations.
In addition to this, another efficient method of evaluating whether training
sessions have had a good impact is by having learning walks. This will
enable other staff members to assess their colleague’s performance in the
learning environment while also analyzing under what conditions lessons are
held to figure out the level of understanding. Nevertheless, this can have its
downsides; for instance, if an individual knows that they are being observed,
they will alter their behavior and try their ultimate best to perform to their
best ability. Therefore, it does not necessarily mean that the latter normally
behaves and teaches in that particular manner, which is known as the
Hawthorne effect.
Moreover, another valuable point to consider when reviewing the success of
a training programme is to confirm whether the new teachers will maintain
the consistent level of high teaching. This is because, some staff members
might decide to perform well only during the first few weeks, in order to
appear in the limelight and get a certificate, without any genuine motive,
and this will eventually affect the quality of teaching.
