1.0 Introduction
In this report the features of two contrasting businesses I am looking at will be between the public
limited company Nike who design clothes and shoes for sports like for example football and a charity
called Water Aid who provide the world’s poorest countries water, education and improve living
conditions. Both organizations are different in their own ways as Nike makes profits which can be
used to invest in new products, whereas Water Aid use donations from the public to be able to fund
the necessities to a different country where people are in need


2.0 Nike

2.1 Background
Nike, Inc. formerly known as Blue Ribbon Sports (1964-78) is an American sports company
headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon. The company was founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports by
Bill Bowerman and his former student Phil Knight, he was a track and field coach at the university of
Oregon and they decided to open their first retail store in 1966 and launched the Nike branded shoe
in 1972. Blue Ribbon Sports was renamed to Nike, Inc in 1978 and went public two years later. By the
early 2000s Nike became a global brand with retail stores and distributors in more than 170 countries

2.2 Purpose
Nike is a company that designs, develops, markets, and sells athletic footwear, clothes, equipment,
accessories, and services. Although primarily designed for athletic use, many of its products are worn
for casual or leisure activities. The majority of Nike's products are manufactured by independent
contractors, and are sold either directly to consumers through Nike retail outlets and digital platforms
like for example an app which means that Nike can gain customers online to increase turnover in a
