Unit 12: Responsible Travel

P2- “Understand roles and objectives of agents of tourism development”

, The travel and tourism industry it is one of the fastest growing industry in the world, and
since it is such a large industry it has plenty agents working in there. It starts from the small
organisation to larger and successful business. For the pass criteria I will be comparing the
roles and the objectives of different types of agents.

Private Sector - Company Name: –Walt Disney
Roles:
The private sector is a large and successful business with plenty companies all over the
world (global). All the business in the private sector make profit in their business, but there
are few businesses the put effort in development of tourism in some areas. The example for
the private sector I choose is –Walt Disney. –Walt Disney has many of their companies all
over the world. It is also known as one of the biggest and most successful entertainment
and media business in the world. They own a wide range of water parks, theme parks, and
cruises ships and plenty Disney stores all around the world. They also have many products
and services that they offer to the tourists. They have different rides and other activities
that meet the needs of different types of visitors from children to elderly people, this makes
everyone enjoy the products and services that they provide. Disney parks and the resort
have been investing a lot of money in improving their services and their products so that it
would make it even more appealing to the tourists, this would bring a lot of tourists in the
business and make a lot of profit. They also have facilities like toilets, souvenir shops,
restaurants and much more. They also advertise their business on social media since it is an
immensely powerful way of people to get to know your business. They also have links with
some tour operators that advertise their business for them.
Political Objectives:
Disney’s objective is to improve the image of an area, for example Disneyland Paris was
meant to be in Essex, England but it was decided it would cause loads of congestion and
traffic to the surrounding areas. Instead, it was decided that Disneyland would be in Paris
therefore pinpointing Paris on the map even more than it already was. English Heritage also
has an objective of enhancing the area, for example Stonehenge has been enhanced and in
2014, Barack Obama, the US president visited the site. The agents may have the same
objective but with different intentions of enhancing the area where they are based or
multiple locations.
Economic Objectives:
Disney resorts and parks hire local people as an objective because the organisation want to
help the local communities and give them jobs opportunities. Disney is constantly being
regenerating by also linking another objective which is employment creation as it creates a
multiplier effect for all the resorts and parks creating a positive economy in the host
destination. Disneyland parks and the resorts employ a lot of the locals in their job, since
they want to make sure that they are helping the locals around that areas by creating
opportunities of jobs for them. They area some repetitively beginning restoring by
