, You are on a work placement in the Economic Development Unit (EDU) at your
local council working with the officers who are responsible for publications,
Vocational brochures and guides.
Scenario or You have been asked to select and investigate a large business that trades in the
Context European Union (EU) and use this research to write a report that evaluates the
effects of the environment on that business.
Task 2.1:
Discuss the internal, external and competitive environment on a given
organisation You will need to look at the environment in which your business
operates and gather information to enable you to consider the following points: the
different aspects of the topic; how they interrelate; You should also assess the
effects that the business environment has on the organisation from least to most
important.
The external environment that affects the business includes the following Political,
Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors.
The internal environment includes the following factors: Corporate culture and
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Ethics
The competitive environment includes the following factors: Competition,
Competitive advantage and factors that influence competitive advantage
Task 2.2:
Select at least two of the following techniques to undertake a situational analysis
Task 2 of the organisation, ensuring internal and external factors are included.

You should provide an evaluation of the extent to which the business has
responded to past changes in the business environment, and suggest how it may
react to future changes to for example Brexit.
Task 2.3
Explain the different market structures (both actual and theoretical) and their features,
how they influence supply and demand, their impact on business pricing and output
decisions and assess the businesses response to how these have changed in the
market. You should also evaluate how market changes have impacted the business
(from smallest to greatest) and how it may react to future changes in the market.
This covers criteria P4, P5, M3, D2, P6, M4 and D3.
