Review essay

Why does gender matter in development?
Evaluate a minimum of three texts from the list and assess their different and
common arguments for the use of a gender lens in development.
For this assignment, you are required to explore some of the core gender and
development literature and analyse the underlying arguments for gender analysis to be
incorporated into each stage of the development process. You should examine the
nuances, contradictions, and agreements between the three texts.
You can also refer to the wider literature, but your main goal is to evaluate a small
number of pieces in depth. Remember you should not repeat the entire argument of a
particular author, but use a concise selection of textual ‘evidence’ to illustrate how they
make their arguments. It is important to provide a critical analysis of the information /
views presented. This essay must be fully referenced – and take care to distinguish
between your views and those of your sources.
