Brutality is defined as savage physical violence against civilians.

• One pro of the media's impact towards the public services showing signs of brutality is that
it shows the public eye the true colours of some of the public service workers and what
they can be capable of when they think they have the power over other people and believe
it gives them the right to abuse it.
• Another pro the media showing brutality within the public services is it highlights what the
services are doing and it allows them time to change what they are doing when they’re
around the public and how they act towards people by placing officers under more
advanced and disciplined training or by firing the officers who decide to disobey and by
doing this it brings the public’s faith back into the services.

• However one con the media's impact has on the public services through brutality is the
negative image that it will portray the public services with, it will create distrust through
the public and create fear which is the complete opposite imagery any public service sector
should be showing.
• Another negative reason for doing this is it can cause rage within the population, this in
turn can create brutality within the public which will be aimed back at the police for
justification of their own brutal actions towards the people within the public which is what
causes such anger within the population and lead to many members of the public deciding
to take the law into their own hands because the public services are lacking in their ability
to do it themselves.
• Another negative of the media’s corruption on the public services is the circumstances that
could evolve in any of the services internally; this as a result could lead to the development
on various issues, ones such as the misconduct between fellow colleagues possibly because
of different views that each one has, it could risk the future of the services as new potential
candidates could very easily back down from joining into any of the services because of
signs of brutality.
The media’s influence on brutality can be both positive and negative as clearly stated, it
would be seen by most as a positive influence on both the public and the media
themselves; however when the media stick their nose into situations such as this it may
backfire on them, an example that could be used to show this is a headline from a news
article The Prindle post “is the media to blame for the police brutality”, this shows their
influence can lead to many drawbacks.
(Mason, B)

The public services are reported on between a daily or weekly basis because of their lacking ability
to carry out their duties correctly and abusing their powers on multiple members of the public.
An example the can shop this is The Metropolitan Police used force more than 12,600 times in just
three months, involving black people.
Around 87% of all the incidents that had been reported were all against men, where 13% were
against women however it was also being aimed at 37 people who were being classified as
transgender. (The Independent, Dearden, L, August 2017)
This is mainly in regards to how black people are so much more likely to have forced used against
them than white people.

, Corruption is the dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.

• One pro of the media presenting the corruption with the public services is the news that
they present places a spotlight on those that are in power, those such as the government or
certain personnel with the money are resources to use and influence others to conduct
dishonest behaviour that could affect other people in the workplace.
This would usually be done through some of the main services such as the police to be able to gain
the upper hand over everyone else, control how officers act, what they do and how they do it; but
also officers carrying out actions off their own back through performing racial and discriminating
actions in front of the public eye.
• Another positive impact this can generate is the media gaining the awareness of society, by
doing this news of such actions within the public sector would spread and place a mark on
the ever growing situation that is consistently being witnessed on a day to day basis,
anything from discrimination to the abuse of one’s power towards others that get targeted.
• One last positive impact this could have is a widespread reduction in bribery as this is a
massive issue when speaking about the problems involving corruption within the public
sector; money is a large weapon used against so many people for which in return brings
positive results for the person using bribery but can also lead to a wide chain of negative
consequences, and this can occur throughout any of the services involved in the public
sector, police, NHS, fire.

• However a negative issue of the media reporting corruption could lead to other issues;
many of the government personnel would get involved and take the situations to a whole
other level and this could add more pressure to the police as they would be under
inspections while also doing their job of providing security and safety to the public
But if it is cases of self-police corruption it would affect other officers by placing a bad image on
them and regular inspections would need to be made towards all officers in search for officer miss
conduct.
• Another negative impact this could result in, and again with all the services is the lack of
trust and confidence that would manifest from it; the services within the public sector are
designed to make everyone feel safe and ensure that they know there are people out there
that can make that happen, however when the forces of corruption are at play this changes
matter for people and they no longer maintain their trust for the emergency services.
• One more negative Impact that could occur from the media showing corruption in the
public services is that it generates fear within people, it destroys the great image people
have of the services because everyone believes they act in society's best interest, however
realistically it wastes all the tax money that is funded from people within society and given
to the public sector to be used for good not for the someone else's greed, this as a result
means that people have to put up with poor quality services which in reality should never
be the case as the emergency services should live up to that and more.

Corruption is a very real thing and always consistent in the everyday community, it can be used for
good but 9 times out of ten it's used for bad situations like getting the upper hand for example.
According to a document by Richard Rose in 2015, the service that is most subject to corruption,
more specifically bribery is the health care service (NHS) reaching up to 10% within a population of
100,000 people.
However the police service was also found to be one of the most corrupt services as more than
one third of people have paid some form of bribe when dealing with an officer or a report. (Rose,
R, reducing bribery for public services 2015)
