Unit 15 – Integrating software applications
Calligra Maxhton
Glasswire HitmanPro
Words Browser
Calligra Words, makes adding images, charts to our documents so much easier.
It as simple as dragging it onto the document. Its software allows you to rotate,
change the size and wrap the image around a text, including much more
features. In terms of compatibility, it allow us to open and save ODF documents
as its default file format. This file format is supported by LibreOffice, Microsoft,
Google Docs.
Maxhton browser, its used by people to watch videos, connect with friends,
search on the web and sync data across platforms, similarly, to google chrome,
Firefox, and Microsoft edge. Another great browser would be lunascape Orion.
Some of its features include multi-line tabs for easy identification of websites, it
allows us to customize mouse movements and gestures and also import
favourites from existing browsers. The browser has an automatic backup. It also
has the option to delete personal information when the browser is closed.
Glasswire, is a security addon for your browser or so called “tool” that visualizes
your past and present network activity on a simple graph. The glasswire tool
alerts you to possible threats, manages your firewall, monitors remote servers,
and helps you understand other’s activity.
Hitman Pro is a portable antimalware program, which aim is to protect, detect
and remove malicious files and other registry entries that can be related to
rootkits, rogue antivirus programs and ransomware.
Why do businesses customise and integrate applications?
Customised applications are helping businesses manage scattered data and
processes better than ever. Integrating and customising applications allow us to
improve each business’s productivity, increase efficiency and in some situations
allow employees to work remotely. Integrating and customising applications,
gives business the power to get the exact functionality they need from their
application. Businesses developers themselves determine the features that will
make their custom application align with their needs.
What were the reasons for the integration – were these pro-active or
reactive activities?
“Generally, UK companies’ marketing spends are down a net average of 11%”.
This specific quote from the article, instantly alerted me that this type of
, integration is reactive, due to being integrated in order to boost the companies’
funds and reduce the average loss for each year.

reactive activities?
“The simple act of managing the spreadsheets was also a source of complexity.”
This quote from the article, shows that they integrated and implement the
application in order for them to improve their productivity and efficiency when it
comes to counting records, due to having 25 million customers and it makes it
harder for them to do the job efficiently on time. Integrating the app allow them
to eliminate the duplication issue with d
data and it allow them to combine all the required information “into a single
source of truth.”
Data Security
Data integration does not automatically put potential data as a security issue.
The risk is not so high if system integrations can be handled with data
encryption. Many data security breaches are due to the faults of traditional
systems. Such systems have security technology and operations that will fail to
keep attackers outside. The risk will be limited if an SSL encrypted data is
transferred between two systems.
Challenges with cloud integration
1. Security,
cloud computing has become a full-blown practice. According to a 2019
survey, 2/3 of the organizations now believe that cloud apps are just as
secure or more secure than their on-premises. The solution is that the
cloud is likely more secure than on-premises, but business still need to
take precautions to manage cloud risk and compliance.
Solution: The cloud is likely more secure than on-premises, but business
still need to take precautions to manage cloud risk and compliance. They
can install data encryption and data backup or recovery.
2. Choosing the right architecture
Choosing the right architecture for your cloud environment is essentials.
Most organizations have three options to choose from. We have the public
cloud, which is offered by a third-party cloud provider, and we have a
private cloud, which is used only by a single organization. The hybrid
cloud combines aspects of both public and private clouds.
Solution: Using two or more cloud solution will require us to combine
data and services between different providers. We must make sure we
understand the API’s.
3. Cloud integration Anti-Patterns
In software development, an anti-pattern is a solution to a common
problem that is basically ineffective and often actively counterproductive.
