B15 Adaptions,
Interdependence &
Competition

, The Importance Of Communities
What is meant by a stable community?

A stable community is where all the species and environmental
factors are in balance so that the population sizes remain fairly
constant. Examples include:
- tropical rainforests
- oak woodlands
- mature coral reefs

The Relationship Between Communities & Ecosystems

Plants and animals compete with each other for various resources.
They also depend on each other for things including shelter, food,
pollination and seed dispersal. If one species is removed, or the
population suddenly grows, it can effect the whole community, this
is interdependence.

An ecosystem is made up of a community of organisms interacting
with the abiotic elements of their environment. The interactions of
the living things make up the biotic elements of the ecosystem.
Within any community the different plants and animals are
interdependent:
- Plants produce food by photosynthesis
- animals eat plants
- animals pollinate plants
- animals eat other animals
-plants need the nutrients from animal droppings
