Assignment Brief and Guidance
1
, Crumlin Computers Limited (CCL) is a Small Business Enterprise providing computing services to
local SMEs including but not limited to Network Planning, Setup, Configurations, Testing and
Security. CCL prides itself on providing unrivalled support to its customers. Due to the recent
business growth, CCL have acquired new headquarters in London. CCL therefore requires
someone who can setup their network at their new HQ in London. CCL are very conscious about
security, especially Network Security for their new HQ in London. Other than HQ in London CCL
has also got two offices at Birmingham (OB) & Manchester (OM).
You have recently been employed by CCL as their network manager and your principal duties
include among other things setting up their network including implementing a secure working
environment in terms of their network.
Your task as their newly appointed network manager is to create a prototype network as a
proof-of-concept. Your prototype must be accompanied by written material that explains how
your networking solution can increase security and scalability as well as address issues of
reliability and availability.
Note :
CCL has obtained the IP Block, 216.21.5.0/24
Each branch consists minimum two development PCs and Once Marketing PC
Except, Development Machines, Marketing machines between OB & OM branches shall
not be communicated
Further, in a given branch, both Development & Marketing machines shall not be
communicated
Prepare a report & a working prototype covering the following tasks:
Task 1
1. Conduct a detailed analysis of Network Security principles and aspects covering devices
needed to implement a secure network. (P1)
2. Conduct a detail analysis on widely used Network Security Protocols used in industrial
application & how those security protocols will work with IPv4 and IPv6. (P2)
Task 2
1. Determine possible Network Security protocols and associated technologies that will
enable a secure network for CCL’s London HQ & sub branches. (P3)
2. Provide a list of Software, Hardware that you plan to use in order to deploy the given
secure network. Discuss the rationale about the selection of the networking devices for
the prototype. (P4)
, Task 3
1. Giving proper steps, Design and implement a network prototype using a network
simulator (GNS3), which incorporates high levels of Network Security features. (P5)
2. Discuss different cryptographic types of Network Security employed in your design. (P6)
Task 4
1. Create a Test Plan for your network with relevant steps. (P7)
2. Provide related proof (wire shark traces, IMCP messages,…) to verify the correct
implementation on your design. (P8)
