, What are induction
programme’s and
why are they
important

Induction can be defined as the process of employees adjusting to their positions and
the overall work environment. There are different types of induction one of them is
an introduction to the industry, this is helpful for young, unexperienced trainees that
didn’t have much experience. This helps the trainees understand the basics of the
industry and help them understand the world around them, to then be able to better
recognise the opportunities and threats within the industry. The second induction
that is important is the firm induction, this will help the new employee or trainee to
understand the company as well as their personality and values. The next induction
would be people induction where the trainees get to know the employees of the
business to give them a chance to ask them questions about the job or the company
overall. This could also be related to the trainees getting an induction on the
management ant the structure of the company, this would give the trainee a deeper
understanding of the internal management of the company. Finally, the surroundings
introduction would be getting the trainee familiarised with their everyday working
area as well as things like health and saftey training, this would make sure that the
future employees knew all the emergency exists as well as assembly points and the
are that they will be working in.

2

, The purpose of the
induction

The purpose of the induction is for new employees to get introduced to a place of work ,
this is to make the daily tasks easier for the new employees when they start their job so it
is easier for them to keep up. Inductions help to introduce employees to the company’s
aims and objectives, this will give the employee a clear picture of the employers
expectations and the employee can get an idea of what kind of management the
company uses by its aims and objectives and how SMART they are. Another place of
work would include the layout of the work area, this is to make sure that the employee
knows the basic placement of the tools that will be required for the individual to perform
their job. The health and saftey has been mentioned in the first slide where it states that
it is important for new employees to be able to perform all the saftey practices if they are
working for the company since that is the minimum expectation. This is also the time for
the employee to learn about the company policies, activities and rules, for new
employees it is important that they are clear of the basic instructions and values of the
company so they can represent the company in the right way as well as being able to
respect the businesses rules. The organisational hierarchy is also a very important factor
for inductions since if the employee needs to make a complain about something they
know who they can go to, it is giving the employees trust and showing them that the
company wants to listen to their employees. Finally any other training like equipment
