My visitor attraction of choice which is the Alton Towers theme park provides a range of
products and services which are designed to meet the needs and cater for a number of
different visitor types. These types will have a range of some common and some different
expectations. The visitor types I am going to use are individuals, families, education groups,
overseas visitors (inbound) and visitors with specific needs.
The first product and service I will look at is that of rides to suit all. Rides like Gallopers
carousel and Battle Galleons would suit families. Families can have fun on the horses and
carriages on the Gallopers carousel. Battle Galleons is a water ride where families can have
fun with water cannons.
Rides like Nemesis, Oblivion and Rita would suit individuals because they are thrill rides.
Nemesis is an inverted rollercoaster that has an underground tunnel. Oblivion is vertical
drop rollercoaster. Rita is a rollercoaster that is really fast for people to experience.
A support service that meets any visitor type’s need at Alton towers is safety signs. They
have many safety signs that protects all visitor types to warn them about each ride. The
safety signs are about height restrictions and fastening seatbelts and not standing in rides.
This meets the needs of all visitor types as it makes sure that all visitors are safe when going
on rides.
Another support service at Alton towers is maps. There are maps of the theme park, resort
and water park. This helps all visitor types to navigate themselves around Alton Towers. It
would meet the needs of inbound visitors because there may be non-English speaking
visitors who can use maps to help them know where they are in Alton Towers.
Alton Towers has a car park for visitors. This would suit families as many families come to
Alton Towers, it is easy for the, to find a place to park. This also meets the needs of
educational groups because they come to Alton Towers by coach and spend the whole day
at Alton Towers. This makes it useful for them. Parking meets the needs of visitors with
specific needs because Alton Towers offer car parking spaces for disabled visitors.
Another support service that Alton Towers offers are Ride Access Passes to visitors with
specific needs who find it difficult to stand for a long time because of physical disability or
learning/emotional impairment.
Alton towers also has wheelchair hire. This meets the needs of visitors with specific needs
because it means they can travel around the Theme park easily.
