Learning aim A
P1
Define psychology: psychology is mainly the understanding/study of the mind and how it
works and the behaviours, while every one of the perspective has its advantages and
disadvantages, the reason why psychology is fractured into various perspective is that it
enable and assists learners and health professionals to build knowledge on a more
extensive understanding about mental health and it associates and its arising problems
There are 6 perspectives, which are:
Cognitive: this is when you understand that the brain works similarly to a computer which is
known as computer analogy
Humanistic: you tend to have freewill which enable you to strive to the highest level and be
the absolute best that you can be.
Biological- the biological perspective focuses about our action that are inherited from our
parents, this perspective is mainly based on medication.
Social learning- this is a perspective that focused on the learned behaviours through the
observation, modelling and imitating of new behaviours that are reinforced by other people
or models, as a result of this new behaviours either continue or stop depending on how they
are reinforced in the social environment.
Behavioural: the behavioural perspective is used in a health and social care setting to do
similar things as the health care services. The main aim of this is to change and shape the
individuals behaviour to understand that there is a way in overcoming the difficult behaviour.
Psychodynamic: this perspective helps clients to understand their emotional and
unconscious patterns of behaviours. By talking through there’s emotions and behaviours
with social workers, clients to know themselves better and make better decision for
themselves.
P2.
Explain two perspective and link to explanations for behaviour in one case study
Biological:
, it is believed that the biological approach reflects on how our doings are inherited from our
biological parents, a common illness that can be inherited is mainly mental illness which is
caused by a faulty genetic. It mainly a way human being looks at their actions and problems.
Linking this to the case, Ahmed H has eating disorder but is currently 18 year old, eating
disorder can be passed on by family in some cases and this is when the individual decides
to eat or not to eat to either gain or lose weight or when he don’t want no food.
Social learning
This is the understanding of behaviours being learned through the process of modelling
observation the imitating of new behaviours that are push upon/ forced on other individuals,
these behaviours can stop or continue depending on how they are taken upon by the person
is being said to or the social environment in a whole, and relating this to the case study as
Ahmed has eating disorder so he has taken upon himself to lose some weight because he
has probably noticed individuals react to it so he has become affected by it and by
responding he decides to not eat or just to have little food.
Behaviourism
This perspective shows that studying the mind cannot be done scientifically and that
behaviours can be learnt, in Simon case he is 45 years old has a severe phobia for spiders
in some instance he developed a fear for spiders at a young either through experience by an
attack by the spider so then from that instance he learnt and chose to be frightened by
spiders whenever he sees them so then this is a behaviour that he has learnt or he seen
others being frightened by spider so they he also think it is a harmful so he decides to be
also be scared , this is a behaviour he learnt from someone else.
Cognitive
This perspective is to do with mainly learning and how the brain process the information,
thinking and memory and mainly attention to details relating to the case study and with
Simon , it can be that he learnt about spiders and the hardly stuff they can do so then he
became instantly frightened of spiders. The information that had been consumed to the
brain about that has caused the phobia of spiders for Simon.
P3
Explain two factors that affect development and link to behaviour in one case study
Social, cultural and emotional: in today’s society everyone is supposed to act a certain type
of way because that’s how you are going to get portrayed. even though individuals act
different ways there are still high exceptions that are expected from the society which can
cause emotional damages such a anxiety, it can be normal in one’s way but be very difficult
in others way. Some individual feel is normal to see spiders around but others don’t they
have phobias for them for example in the case study Simon is 56 years old and has a phobia
for spiders and has to avoid anything to do with spiders by any means possible , he usually
get panic attacks in public when he passes by a Halloween shop were they spider or can’t
