Part 1 –
1 ) The lecturer clearly explained why academics conduct research, which three reasons
were discussed?
1. Create new knowledge
2. Add to existing knowledge
3. Reject existing knowledge (Baroudi, 2019)
2) Discuss the difference between the two research approaches with a source (i.e., can be
the course book or another peer-reviewed article).
Inductive and deductive approach. The inductive approach is used when a topic is studied
which doesn’t have any prior researches. This results in qualitative research.
The deductive approach is used when a topic is studied which does have prior studies. This
results in quantitative research. (Baroudi, 2019)
Part 2 –
Cronan et al. (2018) discuss in their article students’ academic integrity intention and
behaviour. 1) When does an academic integrity violation occurs according to the
authors? Students violate academic integrity when they have a great desire to get ahead of
their fellow students, in doing so forgetting about the moral obligations. Additionally,
students tend to violate academic rules due to peer pressure. Actual violations are: using work
of others as your own, not using proper referencing and cheating in exams. (Timothy Paul
Cronan, 2015)
