If you are looking at applying for university, you might already have an idea of how stressful drafting your personal statement might be. I have now put mine on-line which should facilitate your transition to applying for uni. P.S: Do not copy directly into yours as UCAS will detect plagiarism.
My choice of law is broader than a mere career choice; it has been a
dream right from my childhood. Throughout the years, I have been driven
by the desire to study law at university. My genuine interest in the justice
system has also informed my decision to undertake a law degree. The
question of ‘right or wrong?’ arises in everyday life and I wish to help
people find the right way to deal with the maze of life. By studying
‘Business and Contract Law’ as a unit I have acquired an in-depth insight
into why businesses need to comply with the law and how this can affect
their success.
Recently, I attended law workshops hosted by St Mary’s University and
had the opportunity to learn more about the legal profession as
experienced lawyers gave us an insight into their work and ethics. This
further sparked my interest in the subject and enhanced my eagerness to
pursue a career as a solicitor. Moreover, a recent visit to the Croydon
Crown Court has enabled me to obtain a better understanding of court
proceedings and to differentiate between various legal roles. Reading
reports and the Times law publications regularly also allows me to keep
track of current legal issues while also familiarising myself with law
terminology.
Last summer, I undertook seventy hours of work placement in Selsdon
Park Hotel, as a Human Resources Officer to complement my business
course. It was my duty to input complaints, compliments and employee
details whilst ensuring that we comply with the Data Protection Act. This
has enabled me to understand recruitment procedures, the importance of
complying with legislation and how different departments interact with
each other to achieve a common goal.
Furthermore, I have been an active member of my college as a class
captain, departmental representative and leader of the debating society. I
have been recently elected as the President of the Student Partnership
Council of ABC College. These roles have enriched my time-management,
organisational, inter-personal and other skills required for HE studies.
Besides this, they have introduced me to many opportunities such as
attending corporation meetings with the college governors, being a
member of key committees and assisting in staff interview panels,
including recently interviewing for a new Principal.
As a member of the Croydon Youth Parliament, I face new challenges
courageously and confidently. I have contributed ideas positively to
inform projects and programmes undertaken by the borough. The skills
and qualities I have gained there will also enable me to meet the
expectations of the course I am applying for. As a self-motivating,
