Business Btec level 3 Unit 1 assignment

Unit 1 introductory statement

The two businesses I have chosen to focus my efforts on for my
assignment are ‘Water-loo plumbing limited, whose company registration
number is 01612521’ and ‘CEMEX UK, whose company registration number
is 05196131’.

CEMEX UK

An introduction CEMEX

The first of the two companies I chose to research is one that is in the
secondary sector, any business within this sector focuses on the
manufacturing of a product from its raw materials. and specialises in the
large-scale production of concrete and aggregate which is the primary
resource in the majority of modern-day building(s). In addition, Cemex are
focused on the end goal of making all their operations efficient and one
day become sustainable, causing as little of an impact on the environment
as it can.

As a company which originated in Hidalgo, Mexico. It has for many years
sold concrete and aggregate to local business and people who needed it.
However, in 1992 the company began its first push and became
international when they outright bought two of the largest concrete
production plants in Spain, instantly capitalizing the concrete market over
there as there were no competition at the time and allowing them to grow
even larger and form a global company with over 41,000 employees.

Cemex is a public limited company, meaning it is a limited company. This
means that if it were to have financial debt and it were to claim
bankruptcy nine of that debt would be passed on to the board of directors
or the CEO of the company, This can be beneficial as it allows the owners
of the business to not have as much stress about the business, however
the downside to this is that if you have to declare bankruptcy it impedes
your ability to start another business for 7 years, crippling your status and
reputation with every stakeholder.

As Cemex is a global company it is to be expected that it’s annual turnover
is over 1 billion, in fact it had an annual turnover of roughly £1.8billion as of
2020.
