Unit 7: Technology: Benefits and Future Trends
No unread replies. 2 2 replies.
What technology do you find most beneficial to use in your work or school setting? Least beneficial?
Why do you find this tool useful or not? Then, using your imagination, look to the future and think
about how this tool could be enhanced even further. Describe your dream technology, with
consideration for patient care and safety.

Post 1
What technology do you find most beneficial to use in your work or school setting?
The Technology that I found most beneficial to use in my work and school are computer and
computerized devices. Computers has revolutionized the medical and nursing field and change the was
we do daily tasks and communicate with each other. Computers were introduced to the medical field
in the Late 1950’s and since then the use of technology has become a specialty to enhance nursing
care and efficiency.

Why do you find this tool useful?
Computers and computerized devices are useful to communicate and do tasks that would otherwise
take a very long time manually. Computers allows people to exchange information instantly such as
messaging, emails , discussion platforms ( such as our course shelf) so we do not need to be in a
classroom or a specific location to provide the information that is needed. Without computers and
computerize devices online classes are not possible so for me these tools make getting an education,
learning new skills and completing nursing school possible.

Least beneficial
While computer provide more benefit that not one trend that as become least beneficial provide
opportunity for unauthorized access and sharing of information, especially on social media .
Because information is instantly shared and can go viral instantaneously this can breach patient
privacy and confidentiality and a huge financial burden for the organization and suffering to the
patient.
My dream technology would be a computer that can separate the cancer cells from the body and
destroy them , without causing any harm to the patient. This technology will be minimally invasive ,
like a magnetic it will pull all the cancer cell in one location and destroy all. For me this is so important
because the complication of chemotherapy and surgeries create so much damage to tissues and the
poor body images that are left is emotionally distressing for patients and families.

Education
The educational benefits of computer technology are manifold. Computers in classroom provide young
children the opportunity to learn skills, such as touch-typing, and core types of programs, such as word
processing and spreadsheet applications, they will need throughout their careers. The Internet allows
users the world over to pursue informal and formal distance learning, ranging from simple how-to
videos up to graduate level college degrees.

Post 2
What technology do you find most beneficial to use in your work or school setting? Least
beneficial? Why or why not?
The most beneficial technology is the school environment is the simulation lab. McGonigle states, "
Simulations may use a process known as scaffolding to assist in acquiring the accepted level of
proficiency" (McGonigle, 2015, p. 400). Students have the ability to practice and simulate real-life
scenarios to prepare him or her for critical situations. Simulation is most beneficial because it has the
ability to create a world where students can improve skills. Simulation is also beneficial because
students will not harm an alive patients. It creates an opportunity for everything to go wrong and
student will receive the proper feedback. The more students practice, the better chance he or she has to
correctly care for an actual client. Simulation can also not be beneficial because the simulated scenario
may not
be critical enough to prepare the student. Students have the ability to get nervous once in a hospital
setting because the patient will react to treatment. "A particular simulation may or may not include
exploratory learning and social interaction" (McGonigle, 2015, p. 401). Students need social interaction
to decrease anxiety and improve therapeutic conversations with patients. In a perfect world students
come benefit more from simulations that are alive. The simulations bodies should have the ability to
react to all care including taken blood, warm skin to touch, and have real range of motion. This
invention would require more funding and a robotic team to bring a simulation patient to life.

Hi Nessa,
Great post, Yes simulation is so important in nursing and medical field it prevent us from making fatal
mistakes. Yesterday I had stimulation and our group almost killed our patient , by not recognizing he
was having a seizure and required a different type of interventions that we were providing at that time.
