Planning and creating a successful 3D visual
merchandising display for a retail outlet. Including
evidence of team working in practice.

Introduction
We actively participated in creating our 3D Visual Merchandising Display working in a team,
fulfilling in turn the position of team leader as well as team member. We reflected on the
effectiveness of the team as well as our own effectiveness and we used the feedback in order to be
able to bring improvements in performance and also assessed how we managed the conflicts. In
addition, we showed our individual self-management, initiative, creativity, essential skills in
achieving the success.

Background Information
Our group created a visual, promotional display which is according to the wishes of the company –
Pura Cosmetics. Our display is suitable for the approaching Christmas period with specific periods (a
special Christmas tree being built of boxes wrapped in paper with the company’s brand name and
colours; Christmas decorations etc.). We had a discussion and we decided that our display focuses
on the Gift Sets that are the best-selling product of the company Pura Cosmetics in this period, being
the ideal gift for young woman (their target market). Also, we considered their Lip Balms (very
hydrating) and Tinted Lip Balms (their newest products, hydrating and a wonderful colour). In
addition, we created a mood board for expressing our creative decisions, according with the
company’s values, their specific colours, as well as, their presence on their website and social media
accounts.

Summary of The activity involves the creation of a detailed plan for our 3D Visual
activity: Merchandising Display, taking into account the following aspects: research,
brainstorming, detailing the plan, contingency plan, Health and Safety and Risk
Assessment templates.

Feedback  What worked well: We managed to create a detailed plan for our 3D
section: Visual Merchandising Display, working together. All of us were
involved, bringing a wide variety of ideas. We were able to share the
information correctly, we listened to each other’s ideas respectfully.
Each of us was aware of the tasks we have to meet.

 What didn’t work well: Although, there were not major conflicts in
the team, we had some conflicts due to the fact that each of us at one
time had a different opinion from the others and it was quite difficult

for me as a team leader to find the best solution for the issue and a
way to end the conflict.

My As a team leader, I started by setting clear goals so that all team members have

my team members contributed to it. I had various discussions with the team
members through which I motivated them. I delegated tasks, taking into
account the strengths and the weaknesses of each team member and I ensured
that everyone knows what they have to do, helping them when it was
necessary. Also, I made sure that each member of the team feels that they are
part of the team and their opinions are valuable so that they feel proud of
themselves and work even harder.

I adopted a Democratic Style. I has been highly motivational, I encouraged my
team’ s members to express their own ideas, making them to feel appreciated.
The disadvantage of this style is that sometimes it was complicated to make a
decision due to many opinions I have received.

I consider that I did well as a team leader, but there are still areas for
development (for example: managing the conflicts and making the best
decision).

Overall I believe that the planning for our 3D VM Display was successful, since we
feedback: managed to achieve all the goals we set, to meet the deadline, we did not have
major problems and we are proud of the result.



Two of the SMART Targets set by me for the team:

We want to create a visual display suitable for our client by the 7th of December 2021,
by researching a lot of different ideas, by creating a detailed plan using the most suitable techniques
from the ones we learned so far in our lessons and by creating the display working in team.

We want to achieve a Distinction by bringing our personal contribution in achieving the success, by
being involved in the tasks, but also to work like a team (to listen to each other's opinions, to exist
respect and trust between us, to make decisions together and to try to find the most appropriate
solutions if an issue appears) by the 7th of January 2022.
