,Three realistic opportunities for work experience in business and
how each can prepare for the workplace:
Work experience is very important for young people who are trying to discover their
career, especially that work experience is time spent learning about a job role, a firm,
or a career sector in the workplace. The majority of work experience is unpaid,
although there are some possibilities to earn money. It can be beneficial for career
changers and those wishing to re-enter the workforce.
● Work experience placements/internships
I was rewarded for my excellent performance and
punctuality at College by being accepted into the
Career Ready programme, which provided me with
the chance to work as a Global Market Admin
Operation intern at Citibank in Canary Wharf. During
my internship, I learned how to deal with pressure, adjust to new situations, conduct
research, and manage my time. During my internship I was under the supervision of
the head of the team - Catherine and Matt. I had to do the daily tasks that they gave
me. Global Market Operation (GMO) clears and settles securities and listed
derivatives deals, organises money transfers, offers custody services for proprietary
and client assets, and keeps track of static product and customer data. I was taking
part in all of their meetings and I learned how to use their software which was
complicated. During my internship I have met a lot of successful and inspiring people
which just motivated me to perform much better at college. After my internship I have
decided to continue my education and apply for University. The internship provided
me with an insight of how it is to work in a large international company and what it is
expected from you when you do so. When I was interviewed for this internship they
were looking for particular skills in the student such as ; time management,
eagerness to learn and easily adaptable IT skills. They asked for people who know
how to use PowerPoint, Word and Excel. Which were constantly used by me during
my internship.

, ● Voluntary work
Volunteering is a voluntary act in which
a person or a group willingly gives their
time and labour for the benefit of the
community. Volunteering can help you
build confidence. Volunteering can help
people acquire confidence by allowing them to attempt new things and earn a sense
of accomplishment. It also makes a difference; volunteering may have a significant
and positive impact on individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
Volunteering allows you to meet a diverse range of individuals and establish new
acquaintances. Finally, and perhaps most crucially, it allows you to participate in a
community. Volunteering allows you to feel connected to something other than your
friends and family. It also has an effect on the individual since it helps them feel
fulfilled within themselves. The Voluntary work that I have chosen is Children in
Need. They are the BBC's charity, and its purpose is to ensure that every child in the
United Kingdom is safe, happy, and secure, with the chances they require to achieve
their full potential. They support local organisations and programmes that assist
children and young people overcome obstacles so that they can grow. All of the
volunteers are parents who donate their time to help other parents with children
under the age of five who are having difficulties for whatever reason. It might be due
to a family member's handicap, disease, behavioural problems, addiction, domestic
violence, financial worries, bereavement, or military service. In many cases, the
volunteer might be the difference between a kid being placed in foster care or
staying at home. As part of volunteering work young people are required to do
playtime with kids or read to them. Overall young adults are meant to spend quality
time with the children. I can acquire and improve crucial, transferable work skills
through volunteering. Organisation, leadership, teamwork, communication skills,
problem-solving, and task management are just a few examples. I'll learn to work as
part of a group, in a variety of settings, and with a variety of people.
