Essential Chemistry BS4101
After the first year, people change courses if they want to. Chemical structure, bonding,
biological molecules. Tests-PCR and ELISA-dilutions. Steps-run PCR assays and prepare
solutions, then calculate pH, grams, conc, then interview if you pass. Break at noon! Contents:
intro, organic, lab techniques and analytical, biological.
Assessments: Chem calculations-online, can use calculator and pens, 40 minutes, 7/11. Theory
(Lectures)-online, all material from lectures, 90 minutes, 19/12. Weekly lab quizzes-online, one
attempt, about practicals, no time limit. Calculations, COSHH and R&A forms, and theory. Hair
can be tucked into lab coat. Tutorials-one hour, due before the session. Tutorial 6-reaction rates,
is workshop though. Practicals-do all except lab quiz (do that after the lab). Work in pairs or
alone.
Workbook: A4, bound notebook, write with pen. Use back of professional practice book. Staple
protocol, COSHH, and R&A form to them. On the front or inside front cover=Name, student
number and contact details. On first page=Table of contents. Pages numbered throughout. Each
experiment/session titled and dated.
