Ohman runs a small business buying and selling sports memorabilia such as shirts,
programmes and medals.

He runs his business from a small office with the help of two members of staff.

There are three computers in the office used for administration tasks and
communication with buyers and sellers.

The business currently has a website that is used to advertise the memorabilia.

Ohman has decided that creating a page on a social networking site would give him
additional advertising power with little initial cost.

(a) Explain two features provided by a social networking site that would benefit
Ohman in advertising his business.

One feature that would benefit Ohman is he
would be able to advertise his business on
there, this would help advertise his services to
customers.
Another feature that would benefit Ohman is
he would be able to share up to date
information onto social media, this will inform
the customers any discount they could get.
(b) Explain two drawbacks that may arise from using social networking site to
advertise the business.

One problem could be people harassing the
business, they could spam comments onto their
posts which would overwhelm the company,
leading to them taking the post down.
Another problem could be people spreading
misinformation about the business, people who have a
grudge against the business could start spreading
rumours, which could put customers off.

, (c) The office computers are over five years old and run an operating system that
came preinstalled.

Ohman is considering upgrading to the latest available version of a proprietary
operating system.

Discuss the factors that Ohman should consider before making his decision.

The first factor Ohman should think about is cost,
upgrading to a new operating system could be
expensive due to the licences he would have to
pay for. The education of his staff he will also have
to think about as they might struggle getting around
it at first. Thirdly the security, if they are running
an old operating system, they will not get the latest
updates. This could cause problems such as
out of date security, out of date programs and a
slow computer
