P1: Describe the technologies required for e-commerce

Hardware: Hardware are components that make a computer, without
the hardware the computer will not be able to run. A CPU is an example
of a hardware component in a PC as without the CPU the computer will
not work so users will not be able to shop online thus hardware such as
CPU are required in order for e-commerce.

Software: Software is something that manages the computer’s
hardware it does this through coding, software such as windows are
the most popular used. The purpose of software is to allow the users to
actually use the computer as without the software users will not be
able to use any applications as nothing will load onto the monitor. This
means that no online stores will be accessible so e-commerce will not
work. Without software e-commerce will not exist.

Web browsers: A web browser is a tool that is used to access websites
and the Internet. The purpose of a web browser is to allow users to
access apps and information, for example a user may want to use
chrome to research a specific topic. Web browsers are also very
important for e-commerce as without browsers such as chrome users
will not be able to access websites that allow users to purchase goods
online.

Web servers: A Web server is a device that stores web content.
The hosting of web pages and their data is used on web servers.
Web servers are meant to store, process and provide users with
web sites. certain protocols are used to ensure the website is
secure such as HTTPS. Webs servers are important for e-
commerce as without a secure website user will not be able to
pay for goods online they will also not be able to access a
website.

Server software: This is software that is made to be used in
servers to allow it to access all the facilities available on the server.
The purpose of a server software is to control and manage a server
otherwise it will be unable to be interpreted by a normal person.
This is also important for e-commerce because without its users
will not be able to use websites to pay for goods.

Web authoring tool: these are tools that are used to change the design of a
website. The purpose of this is to make the website look more appealing to
users and so that the website can be used more easily. The web authorising
tools are important for e-commerce because it will allow the user to easily buy
their products without having problems.

, Database system: A database management system is a software
package for creating and managing databases. Many different types of
database systems exist based on how they manage the database
structure. The purpose of a database system is to orgonise the data so
when it is needed it will be found easily. This is important for e-
commerce when a customer wants to return their product as the
business can use the database system to easily find the customers data
and give them a refund.

TCP/IP model: The TCP/IP model consists of four layers, the application layer, transport
layer, and then the Internet and network access layers, the model is known as transmission
control protocol/internet protocol. Each layer has a different role and if one layer is to fail
the whole model will fail. The purpose of the TCP/IP model is to communicate with other
devices. This is important for e-commerce because communication is required between
devices when an online order is being ordered.

Protocols: A communication protocol is a system of rules that allows two or
more entities of a communications system to transmit information via any
kind of variation of a physical quantity. The protocol defines the rules, syntax,
semantics and synchronization of communication and possible error recovery
methods.

Domain names: An organisation, in which you want to register your
domain name, is a domain name registrar. An internet service provider
(ISP), a domain names reseller or a corporation that registrates
domain names may be a domain name registrar. The main role of a
domain name registrar is to handle the reservation of domain names
and to assign an IP address for those domain names domain names
are important in e-commerce because they are required for a website
to work so without the domain name the website will not be accessible.

Download speeds: Every website has its own download speed this
will determine how long it will take for the website to load when
the user wishes to use it, in e-commerce it is best for a website to
have a good download speed as users will want to quickly get onto
the website and order their goods.

Browser and platform compatibility: this are when a website is
compatible on many browsers. The purpose of this is to make the
website available to everyone no matter what browser they use. This is
important for e-ecommerce because it will allow the business to
increase their profits as some people that use different browsers to shop
online.
