Recruitment & selection
1. What is recruitment and selection?
Recruitment is a process of generating a pool of qualified candidates for a particular job, the
first step in the hiring process.
Selection is the process of making a “hire” or “no hire” decision regarding each applicant
for a job, the second step of the hiring process.
1. What is job analysis?
Job analysis is the systematic process of collecting information used to make decisions about
jobs. Job analysis identifies the tasks, duties, and responsibilities of a particular job.
1. How to plan an R&S procedure?
The process typically involves determining the characteristics required for effective job
performance and then measuring applicants on those characteristics, which are typically
based on a job analysis. Depending on the applicants’ scores on various tests the selection
process will happen
1. Who are involved in this procedure?
Managers, HR department, new hire’s coworkers, and new hire’s subordinates
1. What are the costs of an R&S procedure?
Salary of your recruitment team
Salaries of extra team members involved in the hiring process
Internal commissions or referral bonuses you might have set up
, Advertising and online job board costs
investment of software that you use to hire employees
time invested by staff during the hiring phase
the recruitment cost of “bad hires
recruitment outsourcing costs
When you add everything up, the average cost of new hire can be anywhere between £3,500
to £5,000
What is gross and net salary?
The gross salary is the total amount of your salary without the deduction of tax and any other
costs. The net salary is the salary that is deposited into your bank account every month. When
agreeing on a salary, the amount in question is almost always stated as a gross number.
What is a collective labor agreement?
CAOs are collective agreements between employers (or employers' organizations) and trade
unions about wages and other conditions of employment.
A collective labor agreement (CLA) is a written agreement containing agreements about
employment conditions. For example, about wages, allowances, payment of overtime,
working hours, probationary period, notice period or pension. A collective labor agreement
applies to a large group of people.
What is pension?
A pension is a type of retirement plan that provides monthly income after you retire from
your position. The employer is required to contribute to a pool of funds invested on the
employee's benefit. As an employee, you may contribute part of your wages to the plan, too.
Illness and payment:
Under Dutch law, an employee is entitled to sick pay for the first two years of illness which
prevents them from working. This sick pay must be, at a minimum, 70% of the employee’s
current wages. However, if this 70% falls below the statutory minimum wage, then the sick
pay entitlement will rise until this requirement is met. If an employee falls sick due to
complications in their pregnancy, they will be entitled to 100% of their salary whilst on sick
leave. The sick wage an employee receives can be subject to deductions in light of any
employee benefits currently being received by the employee in question.
Health insurance:
Every person who lives or works in the Netherlands is legally obliged to take out standard
health insurance to cover the cost of, for example, consulting a general practitioner, hospital
treatment and prescription medication. You may also opt to take out additional insurance to
cover costs not included in the standard package.
